The Basics of Credit Seminar on April 3, 2024, from 4:30-6:00 pm was an opportunity for 40 student attendees to learn more about financial literacy topics. The 90-minute presentation and discussion covered building credit, how credit is evaluated, student loans, saving, and budgeting basics. Deborah Kennedy of We Teach Credit was the facilitator of the workshop hosted by Transformative Learning Fellows Criss Miller, Senior Program Manager/Assistant to the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education, and Katherine Lawlor, Program & Operations Manager in First-Generation & Limited Income Student Initiatives. Giveaways for student attendees included Moe’s burritos as a meal and t-shirts, meal vouchers, polos, scarves, etc. Students were asked to spin the wheel to test their knowledge on the credit system including terminology, credit reporting, and credit scores, federal loan options, estate planning, and more. At the end of the presentation students were shown budgeting tools and a debt payoff plan.
Thank you to Criss Miller for the program idea, Joy Harris for the program funding, Katherine Lawlor for the program support, and Deborah Kennedy as our outside speaker.
