I’m pleased to announce that, effective immediately, Dr. Roberta Berry is appointed full-time Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (AVPUE). For the past year, Roberta has served both as AVPUE and as Executive Director of the Honors Program (HP). Her appointment as full-time AVPUE responds to additional demands for leadership and support in three areas: general education initiatives underway in the University System of Georgia (USG); a number of Georgia Tech curricular initiatives overseen by the VPUE and the Institute Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (IUCC); and efforts associated with the SACSCOC 10-year reaffirmation process.

Over the next six months, we will develop and implement a leadership transition plan for the HP; we expect this transition plan to conclude with the appointment of a director of the HP, who will report to Roberta. While Roberta no longer serves as Executive Director of the HP, she continues to exercise supervisory and strategic oversight of the HP, and she will continue to do so throughout the transition period and following the appointment of a director for the HP.

Roberta will also continue to perform AVPUE responsibilities previously assigned, including: serving as deputy to me; assisting with matters of undergraduate curricular policy/regulation; serving as point of contact for OUE leadership/staff on curricular matters and policies; providing “dotted line” supervision for curricular analytics; providing leadership in developing systems for curricular development for Living Learning Communities (LLCs); supporting USG undergraduate initiatives and engaging with state and national associations concerned with curricular development and assessment; assisting with academic policy development and implementation; and assisting the VPUE with non-tenure track promotion processes for OUE faculty.

Please join me in congratulating Roberta on her updated role as full-time AVPUE.
