This prestigious award recognizes exceptional undergraduate students who have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to research. Porter Zach, a Computer Science major, will graduate in 2025.

The Fulbright Canada Mitacs Globalink award will enable Porter Zach to spend a summer in Canada, working on a research project in collaboration with a Canadian university. The program promotes research collaborations between Canada and other countries and provides exceptional undergraduate students with international research experience. The program will also help Zach reach his long-term goal of researching brain-inspired computing technology.

I wanted to improve my French skills by immersing myself in a French-speaking workplace while also contributing to an interesting and engaging research project," said Zach about why he wanted to spend a summer doing research in Canada. "I'm also looking forward to experiencing Canadian culture and enjoying the mild weather.

Porter's project will take place in the MIST (Making Innovative Space Technology) Lab at the École Polytechnique in Montreal, under Dr. Giovanni Beltrame. He will tackle open problems in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotic Perception. The fusion of these research fields enables self-driving robots, autonomous swarms of UAVs, and even robotic systems for planetary exploration.

"I am extremely grateful to Dr. Karen Mura, Prestigious Fellowships Advisor, for her guidance and support throughout the application process," Zach added. "Prestigious Fellowships Advising introduced me to the program, answered my questions, and held a very informative presentation with former participants."

"We are proud of Porter and his accomplishments," said Dr. Mura. "We are pleased to have him represent Georgia Tech in this international research program and to be a cultural ambassador for the U.S. while in Canada."
