Tutoring & Academic Support, part of the Office of Undergraduate Education, has partnered with Knack, an app-based tutoring platform, to deliver peer tutoring for engineering courses.

Knack launched in 2015. At the time, co-founder Samyr Qureshi was a pre-law student and well aware of the fact that there was still not necessarily a great way to connect potential tutors and tutees on campus. Qureshi teamed up with three friends to launch Knack at University of Florida’s tech incubator, The Hatchery. Since 2015, the company has grown rapidly is being used on over 100 campuses nationwide.

We are excited to offer a new opportunity for peer-peer tutoring at Georgia Tech," said Dr. Linda Green, Director of Tutoring & Academic Support. "Knack give students access to schedule academic support at a time most convenient to their schedule – making it easier than ever to get help in their classes. We have more than 30 tutors ready to help students across the College of Engineering curriculum.

Tutoring is free, online, and can be scheduled at the convenience of the student and tutor. Knack tutors are Georgia Tech students who have earned an A in the courses they support. (Top requested courses: COE 2001, COE 3001, ISYE 2027, ISYE 3770, AE 3340, ME 3322, CEE 2040, CEE 3770, ECE 2020, ECE 3710)

How it works

  • 1 - Visit gatech.joinknack.com
  • 2 - Submit a request and review qualified tutors.
  • 3 - Select your tutor and schedule a session.
  • 4 - Meet with your tutor and "Knack it out of the park!"

Become a Knack Tutor

Students can sign-up to be a tutor, complete online training, and earn money based on a work schedule that they control. Knack’s employment model provides high flexibility to balance a campus tutoring position with coursework. "We hope it allows us to offer more academic support for engineering courses," Green said. "If our spring pilot goes well, we will expand to all courses across campus."

Additional support continues to be available in the Clough Tutoring Center, with more details available at tutoring.gatech.edu or tutoring@gatech.edu.
