It is our pleasure to announce that effective January 1, Catherine "Cassie" Thomas has joined High-Impact Learning Initiatives as our Associate Director of Undergraduate Transition Seminars.
In this position, Cassie will be charged with overseeing all aspects of the First-Year and Transfer Seminars (GT 1000 & 2000), including managing all aspects of the course curriculum, instructor and team leader (TL) recruitment and training enrollment logistics, awards/recognition, and program assessment. She will collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop and implement a campus-wide common academic experience program and serve on relevant campus and divisional committees, and work groups, and represent GT 1000 & 2000 at campus events like FASET, Week of Welcome, Gold Carpet Days, etc.
Prior to joining Georgia Tech, she served for seven years as Associate Dean for Student Success Programs at Georgia Gwinnett College. She is a 2023 Georgia Association for Women in Higher Education (GAWHE) Leadership Program Fellow and participant in the 2023 American Council on Education (ACE) Women's Leadership Mentoring Program. Cassie holds a Ph.D. and Master's in English from Penn State University. She is passionate about providing equitable and inclusive access for all students to succeed in higher education and supporting faculty and staff development toward that goal.
